Technical FAQs
Can I change the position of the icon?
Yes, as part of OnlineOpinion
we do allow adjustments to the location of the icon.
I've subscribed and installed DialogCentral, but
I can't access my reports?
You probably have not yet activated your site. Please see the activation
FAQ immediately below this one.
Why and how do I activate my website?
Activating a site links your Subscriber ID to the websites on which you
have installed DialogCentral. To activate, simply enter your subscriber
ID and password at http://www.yoururl.com/DialogCentral/activate30dc.html,
replacing "yoururl" with your website's name.
Why can't I find the page to activate my website?
Either you have not yet uploaded the DialogCentral folder or you uploaded
it into a subdirectory. Please ensure the DialogCentral folder is at the
root level of your Web server.
I activated my URL but the system automatically truncates
it. Why?
Our product is designed to register URLs as root domains only. For example,
http://www.rootdomain.com/page1 and http://www.rootdomain.com/subdomain
will both be registered simply as http://www.rootdomain.com.
Will DialogCentral work on dynamic pages?
Yes, DialogCentral will collect data on dynamic pages. However, the DialogCentral
system eliminates all characters in a URL after a "?" or "#".
Therefore, the reporting system aggregates data for dynamic pages into
a common URL.
For example, imagine the following dynamic pages:
http://www.sample.com/index.asp?12345
http://www.sample.com/index.asp?67890
The DialogCentral system will combine the data into one page:
http://www.sample.com/index.asp.
Do you consider http://www.sample.com to be a different
site from http://sample.com?
Yes, our system would consider these as two unique domains.
How will DialogCentral affect the download time of
my website?
DialogCentral is the last element to load on any Web page so it should
not impact the time required to view existing content. Also, the graphics
are cached, so after it appears on the screen once, it should reappear
quickly thereafter. All told, the size of the graphics and code should
not noticeably affect the download time of your website.
What browsers support DialogCentral?
DialogCentral is compatible with Internet Explorer and Netscape browsers
above version 4.0.
What type of Web pages will work with DialogCentral?
The standard version of DialogCentral will function on the following
types of Web pages: HTML, SHTML, dynamic HTML, XML (used within HTML),
JSP, ASP and frames. DialogCentral is currently not compatible with Adobe's
GoLive Action script.
Does DialogCentral work on frames?
If you have multiple frames on a page, DialogCentral will collect ratings
for the frame on which it is located. Please note that DialogCentral requires
the use of I-frames when used in an Internet Explorer browser.
Does DialogCentral work on Flash websites?
No. Plug-ins, such as Flash, typically have top priority in most browsers.
Therefore, Flash will override our JavaScript - i.e. Flash will overlay
DialogCentral, hiding it from the viewer.
Does DialogCentral work on intranet or password-protected
websites?
Yes, we can collect data from intranet or password-protected websites.
However, you will likely have to reconfigure your firewalls to enable
the DialogCentral data to be sent to our database.
Will DialogCentral work on sites created through
free Web page provider services like GeoCities, Angelfire or Tripod?
We are currently working on a version of our product that will support
subscribers who host content under a directory of another top-level domain.
At this point, however, we do not provide this service. We will post this
new version on our website when it becomes available.
